Measurements of the velocity field and burning velocity are reported for a swirl-stabilized premixed laboratory scale burner. Of specific interest in the present study is the role of hydrogen addition in premixed methane flames. Because of the high flame speeds associated with hydrogen, flames enriched with hydrogen are prone to flashback. Therefore detailed characterization of hydrogen enriched flames is of interest. In particular, measurements of turbulent flame speeds for different hydrogen contents are desired. In this study, we present detailed PIV measurements of the velocity field for two hydrogen concentrations in hydrogen-methane flames. The measured velocity fields are analyzed to extract flame speeds and these are correlated with measurements of CH chemiluinescence.
