Abstract

In the present paper a single-degree-of-freedom, periodically forced impact oscillator is investigated by numerics and experiments. At first the different types of motion and bifurcation diagrams are determined from experiments and compared to numerical results on the basis of the identified impact model. Also the nonsmooth third order system shows a rich bifurcational behaviour. On the basis of the identified nonsmooth model further analytical and numerical analysis can be applied. The Lyapunov exponents and the winding number are evaluated for the non-smooth system.
