Abstract

A number of researchers have investigated burr formation mechanisms through careful observations and well thought-out experiments. The results of their studies help untangle underlying effects of key machining parameters on burr formation. However, so far, nobody has practically incorporated such knowledge into the area of process planning. The purpose of this paper is to develop general strategies to minimize deburring cost. Furthermore, it establishes basic decision making tools for efficient deburring planning.
