It is very important for designers, engineers, and even researchers to quickly and responsively get design data whenever and anywhere as needed. Internet is an enabling technology to make this be becoming a reality. In last few years, many improvements have been made in the information sharing through the WWW (World Wide Web). But in the CAD/CAM area it is still at an early stage. The aim of this paper is to explore various aspects of how to implement a Web-based engineering design support system which would allow the simulation of mechanical assemblies with parametric facilities, through the example of design of rolling bearings. The paper concludes with a discussion on the potential and applications of the approach and the system proposed.
