The purpose of this paper is to investigate the squealing mechanism of a wheel brake with double shoes to develop effective treatments for the reduction. Detailed observations reveal that the squeal frequencies are closely related to the natural frequencies of the system. These squeal frequencies coincide with the frequencies of instability obtained by a linear analysis of the system. It is demonstrated that squeals are induced by the coupling of the modes of the disk and both beams, two modes of a single beam and the modes of the disk and a single beam.
