Abstract

Mixed-mode delamination crack growth characteristics in a SiC/SiC woven laminated ceramic matrix composite is analyzed. Delamination crack growth under mixed mode conditions was investigated using a computational mechanics approach. For the purpose of this study the CMC specimen considered was in 4-point bending. A notch, of 1/3 of the specimen width was considered in the analysis. In this paper only symmetric delamination crack growth were investigated and results presented. Effects of other parameters, such as loading configuration, material properties, crack configuration, and effect of temperature on the energy release rates were also investigated.
