Multiple nonaligned part-through-wall cracks are common flaws in many structural components. It is, therefore, necessary to be able to readily estimate the interaction of stress intensity factor in order to assess these cracks in failure assessment diagram and fatigue crack growth life prediction. However, because of the complicated nature of the foregoing, adequate equations are not available. In this paper, a parametric study of the interaction between two nonaligned adjacent cracks is undertaken by the body force method and three-dimensional finite element analyses, together with the analyses of the existing results available in the literature. The empirical expressions for the three-dimensional modification factor for nonaligned part-through-wall cracks subjected to uniform tension, which is derived with reference to the two-dimensional interaction factor, are proposed as a function for a wide variety of crack configurations.
