Stresses in a Notched Strip Under Tension

Although some approximate methods previously may have been used to calculate the stresses in a notched strip with or without the aid of photoelastic observations, no theoretical solution seems to have been developed. The author has now formulated such a solution for a strip under tension; the strip being notched by a pair of symmetrical semicircular arcs on its boundaries. Numerical examples of the solution have been worked out and compared with experimental results available.
