Abstract

Paper presents a numerical method for calculating the large deflections of beams, assuming that the elastic axis can be approximated to by a number of circular arcs tangent to one another at their points of intersection. The calculations are made in tabular form, and are illustrated by particular examples of straight and curved cantilever beams and of rings subjected to concentrated or distributed loads. In those cases where an exact solution is possible, excellent agreement with the present method was obtained.
