During the past 5 years, I had the honor to serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the ASME Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics. This journal was established and sponsored by the ASME Design Engineering Division (DED) Technical Committee on Multibody Systems and Nonlinear Dynamics, which also sponsors the ASME International Conference of Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics, and Control. The ASME Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics was the result of many years of successful scientific collaboration and conference and symposium organizations that created the need for a medium for dissemination of original research results in the areas of multibody systems and nonlinear dynamics. The goal of establishing the journal was to respond to the need for the dissemination of original research in a new computational mechanics research area concerned with the nonlinear dynamics of large scale and complex physics and engineering systems.

The first issue of the journal was...
