Although I assumed the Editorship of the ASME Journal of Energy Resources Technology (JERT) at the beginning of January 2001, the transition process of this important and complex job from Jim Brill at the University of Tulsa to me at the Louisiana State University has taken several months and is being just completed. It has taken much longer than expected, but we have had very few problems. Also, since the appointment is for five years, I will have some time to develop my own strategy for running the Journal.
The transition of Editorship takes more than just moving the files, notifying the Editorial Board, and passing the reviews in progress from one Editor to another. There is also a conceptual question: whether to follow the path set by the predecessor (continuation), or to keep up with the changing world, deviate, and cut a new path (innovation).
