ESFF is a technique which promises to give improved performance in the filtration of flyash from the effluent gas of coal combustion. The present studies were made to assess the feasibility of the same technique in the removal of cotton dust from the air of a cotton processing plant. Particle size analysis of cotton dust generated from various sources indicates that trash from a mill filter can be used to generate a suitable test aerosol. None of the distributions measured were found to contain particles smaller than 0.5 μm. Experiments with such aerosols showed that ESFF reduced penetration significantly over the entire particle size range.
