First this paper deals with a kinematic analysis of hobbing. As a result, all the tooth surfaces of a gear cut by this hobbing are proved to be slightly different respectively. Next an ideal gear by this hobbing is defined, and an imaginary generating rack which generates the ideal gear is obtained. Finally how to determine cutting dimensions is presented.
