Two suitably matched Geneva-wheels driven in series are proposed to convert uniform rotary motion to intermittent rotary motion. The suggested mechanism is simple, and its kinematic characteristics are very desirable. The output motion starts and ends with zero acceleration. The acceleration increases gradually at the beginning and ends smoothly at the end of the motion cycle. The undesirable shock loadings, typical of the simple Geneva-mechanisms, are completely eliminated. A further advantage of the proposed mechanism is that the ratio of dwell to motion times can be selected from a considerable range of possible values.
