A patented double crank ring-plate-type cycloid drive is introduced in this paper. The new drive requires no output unit and places no limit on the size of the tumbler bearing. The drive is able to transfer larger torque than a typical existing planetary cycloid drive. The newly designed double crank ring-plate cycloid drive preserves the standard advantages of planetary pin-cycloid drives. Its working principles, advantages and design issues are discussed. Promising results from prototype testing are presented.
