This paper addresses the problem of elevator compensation rope vibration in tall buildings. An analysis is made of the vibrations of a hanging rope, whose weight per unit length is not negligible, excited by an oscillation at the upper end and having a weight suspended from the lower end. The effect of introducing a damper at the upper end in order to limit the vibration is also examined.
